Blog Post: How would you describe our current education system? What's working? What's not working? Would you change anything?
"Our current education system has it's flaws, and it is no secret. From the quality of the schools, to the salary of the teachers, the system is not perfect. It is great that children are required to get an education, but they are not forced to actually learn anything. Schools do not provide children knowledge, just the appearance of knowledge. Kids learn how to pass tests and get an "A" in classes that they soon forget all about. It is better to study and get a "B" in a class, and actually learn something than to just memorize the material to get an "A" on a transcript. At the university level, education is driven mostly by profit. Teenagers are now in a day and age where it is assumed that one should go to college to get a good job. A lot of freshman in college do not even know what they want to do with their life but yet they go to college and spend thousands of dollars to try and figure it out. After they graduate college, they now have a degree which is only helpful to just get an interview. If an education is so important then why do most employers care about leadership, commitment, and work experience. Instead of being taught a pointless general education class that relates nothing to your major, why don't colleges require students to take a leadership class, or public speaking classes where they can learn something that would be useful to them in a career. I am not trying to say that I have learned nothing in school, but I am trying to say that in the grand scheme of things, schools only care about how many students pass the class, not how well the retain the information. It is great that kids go to school every day to get an education, I just wish they actually learn what they are being taught."

Reflection
This was one of my favorite blog posts because I always like to discuss touchy topics like politics and the role it plays in everything we do. I posted a few of the comments from the blog post to show how what I said registered in other people's mind. I think this post showed how many people I connected with when I discussed how colleges can be improved. Blog posts are an important way to expand your writing skills because if someone likes what you wrote, or didn't, they are going to tell you why.
