New friends
I live in an engineering residence hall, so I have made many friends that are going through the same classes as I am. This is helpful, especially at the start of your college career, because it provides you with a good foundation to start out with. My friends and I have formed many study groups that help us get though various homework assignments. I think that it is important to make friends with people in your major because, chances are, they know something that you do not. It is really important to have a solid GPA, and making the right friends can certainly help you in that goal.
Networking
I am member of the Society of Systems Engineers here at UNCC. The Society is comprised entirely of either Systems Engineering students or Graduate students. This Society focuses on professional development, networking, and interpersonal bonds; we also actively work to improve the System Engineering department. For example, SSE recently got approved to have a Lean Six Sigma class, something that was previously not an available course. I have shown my commitment to this society by not only attending every meeting, but also by participating in their fundraising events. This society has exposed me more to my major and a variety of activities that helped me network with business owners.
I think that being apart of this society will especially help improve my resume and show that I am willing to take the initiative and show leadership skills. I have made many professional contacts from all of the guest speakers that have talked to us and I also have made a LinkedIn profile to help me expand my professional network.

Peer CRITIQUES
In UWRT 1103, our class has done a few peer workshops while writing our various papers. During this time, I felt like I actually had a reason to come to class(I'm not saying I didn't have a reason before); I liked the teamwork and collaboration that went on in class. I really felt like it was a good learning environment and I even felt engaged because it got us out of our seats. I like not only getting feedback, but also giving other people feedback when I come up with a great idea that they never even though of. I feel if more classes had times for more interactive group work where everyone helps everyone, college would go much smoother. Group work in most classes is just four people sitting a table doing the same worksheet. In UWRT, it is much more than that and it has helped my writing significantly.
